Monster

There it was. The end of the long, seemingly endless, corridor. Sweat poured down her cheeks as she tumbled along. An eerie feeling trailed alongside her as she strode past frame after frame of dead people, who's eyes seem to watch her every step. Monster, was all she could think of. Her feet felt like heavy sacks of sand as she desperately lifted each in a fretful attempt at fleeing.

She reached the end of the dimly lit corridor and quickly debated which way to turn. Left, into the desolated bathroom? Or right, into the crashed and thrashed bedroom? With an air of uneasiness, she turned left and locked herself into a stall. The light flickered on and off, there was the faint drip-drop sound of a tap left unclosed. But mostly, she could only hear the deafening thump of her heart hammering against her ribcage. The images of the night flashed in front of her eyes. Getting up in the middle of the night, the sixth sense of being followed, running away from whatever it was that she was afraid of. Yes, she was afraid. And she wasn't afraid of admitting that she was afraid.

She took shallow, sharp breaths in an effort to calm herself down. She could hear nothing out of the ordinary outside. With shivering hands, she unlocked the door. Her eyes opened wide. Slowly, she walked towards the mirror, with her heart racing and her hands shaking. There it is, she thought as she looked at herself in the mirror. There's the monster.
